### **Why do leaders care so much about their own privacy?**

Leaders, and especially dictators, love to keep tabs on their citizens, but they never let you know what they're doing. Why? Because privacy gives you power.

When they have access to your data, they control your decisions, manipulate you, and, if necessary, punish you. But when the focus is on them, everything becomes a “state secret.” They know that exposure weakens them. It's much easier to maintain control when no one can question their actions or know where they went wrong.
