We should distinguish between “maintain” and…

“My name is John Smith, I am a bitcoin developer backed by Layer XYZ labs, a (theoretical) company that took VC funding to build out a product that depends upon a bitcoin protocol change. BTW, if we don’t make this protocol change, Bitcoin will die and never scale.”

Indeed. And the chasm of nuance between the two.

Yup.

Ossification was at first used as a deliberate mischaracterization of the "maintenance only" position. Since plebs like to turn around terms they adopted it.

Recently I have seen some people assuming that "ossification" means "do nothing". They seem to understand that it is not logically possible to not do at least minimal maintenance, and they still think that the hyperbolic term is used to mean "do nothing".

So one is tempted to assume that their underlying motivation is not a low ability to draw rational conclusions but perhaps part of a move to herd public perception toward certain changes.

GettiNg real tired of some people gaslightning with false dichotomies like "LOL WE CAN'T OSSIFY WHAT IF WE NEED SOME JANNIE WORK DONE LIKE UPDATE A DEPENDENCY"
