We have an open, private and decentralized file sharing protocol (bittorrent).

We have an open, private and decentralized social networking system (#nostr).

We have an open, private and decentralized payment and value protocol (#bitcoin and #lightning).

And you're still scared of the authorities?

Bittorrent is easy to disrupt (my govt blocks the popular tracker servers), and easier to monitor.

IPFS over Tor is a much more secure way to share large files.

But yes, developers have been beavering away for freedom! Hats off to #decentralisation and #FOSS!

The same has been done where I live and I can easily reach most trackers if not all.

They only poison the DNS here. That's enough to stop the normie's.

"Low effort Fascism" should be #australia's national motto.

I keep forgetting how it's much more difficult to be free in Westernized countries than it is for the rest of the world (no sarcasm intended).

Literally true. (Partial exception for the #USA.)

Believe me, it's the worst place if you're not white (an off-shades will qualify).

*all

I believe you. Won't be visiting to find out!

A VPN and there is nothing they could do in for 15 years in France to stop people using BitTorrent out of forbidding VPN usage (which they seriously begin to think about in some recent bills…)

Concerning BitTorrent I think DHT makes the use of trackers much less needed for clients to find their peers so it’s maybe not so easily stoppable. And as you say there are other protocols difficult to stop for P2P file sharing.

Sadly we don’t have a way teleport yet so yes physicality is still an issue, you can be harmed or chained by your overlord if you don’t abide and there is nothing you can do about it.

At least until Bitcoin shrinks Nation States enough for us to avoid big wars, for borders to disappears replaced by more locals jurisdictions and decentralized privately owned land, and for technical progress to finally skyrocket allowing us to travel fast and anonymously or even to leave earth if we chose.

So it’s not a near future, we will be struggling with our masters in relative slavery for a while before really becoming sovereign individuals, but this day will come eventually unfortunately not in our lifetime I fear.

But we still have the tools to transact and interact privately and securely. Right now it's just a balancing act until we more efficiently utilize it.

The whole issue is far from being either black or white.
