Another reason why the US funds Israel is because it is extremely profitable to be a warmonger, the military-industrial complex demands it. The Israelis would prefer to be less dependent on American arms manufacturing, but this is the reality we live in. Should Israel get its weapons from China? Russia? Ideally, they'd manufacture their own weapons so they can defend themselves from the islamists, but there's nothing wrong with purchasing weapons from other nations.
