what a great juxtaposition. Yeah, I can pretty easily see both POV. The optimist in my says Finey-thinking is our long term trajectory, but we are in a Kaczynski-slump for a few years to come. Breath throught the K-slump, work toward the Finey future. I have to believe that truth and honesty can find a way to pull a victory if given enough time, otherwise the battle isn't worth the fight.

I think Ted is outright wrong, Hal is right, but what he says is just a possibility, not a certainty.

Computers are tools, like every tools they can be used for good or evil.

But complex tools that they are, they vastly exceed the mental capacity for most people to understand.

Tyrants and authoritarians don't understand computers either (in general), but they know enough about it that they know the masses of clueless plebs can be much more controlled with this technology.

And they have the money and political power to push this down on everyone's throat.

Guess it's up to the honeybadgers now..
