A big hurdle I had for most of my adult life was that I thought if I went to school to get qualified for something, that opportunities would present themselves because of it. They never did, and I had to work for less than I deserved for years.

It never really occured to me until relatively recently that I don't hire people based on their resumes but based on their portfolio, and others probably do the same.

It was a sort of enlightenment moment for me, similar to when you realize as a kid that nobody was thinking about you as much as you thought they were because they were all too busy thinking about themselves.

The realization helped me start my web design business, logo and branding business, marketing business, the recent catch n release business, etc. Most people will hire you simply because you work fricken hard and do a decent job.
