Yes, I have had this problem several times, and I run relays.
The root problem is that different relays will have different profiles for you recorded at different times. And that in includes your relay lists. It's further compounded by the fact that they changed the protocol on how to find relays several times. Net result is that there are bugs everywhere, including the famous one where a new user cant follow anyone, in many cases.
So what's needed is a time based profile solution where you can mark and fetch the *latest* profile globally. If one is overwritten, you can roll back to the previous. This solution has been resisted for a long time. But it just makes sense.

I remember when I first posted on habla.news it wiped my bookmarks, which I'd just started using.
However the bookmarks only seemed to work in Primal, so I'm using a separate notepad app to store bookmarks.
Just an aside: for me, I'm pretty sure the new user that cant follow anyone was related to having created my own nsec offline. It seems many clients don't know what to do if you don't already have a follow list to add follows to.
