24 word seed with pass phrase vs multisig. Is multisig actually better for an individual hodler? If yes, why?

If stored separately, I would consider the seed + passphrase comparable to a 2-of-2 multisig

My impression is that any multisig that requires all of its parts (x-of-x, rather than x-of-y) is inherently riskier because if you lose any key then you’re screwed.

2-of-3 multisig on the other hand would provide equivalent security from attackers with a reduction in personal-error-risk.

My two sats 🤙

What abou Shamir backup keys?

I don’t really know enough about it to have an opinion, although most of the technical- and security-minded bitcoiners I’ve heard mention it suggest it’s not a great solution.

Couldn’t tell you why, though.

I really struggle to understand the difference of the risks between Shamir and 3-5 multisig. In my understanding it all boils down to having 3 private keys

My sense was that it makes recovery harder for the owner without creating significantly greater hurdles for a thief. But again I really don’t know enough about it

I think #[3] is a fan of 3-5 multisig. 3 private keys ftw?

??? странный вопрос. обратись к истории.... сатоши не имел слова... используй закрытый ключ... это все серьезно

I think it just depends on your risk tolerance. For me, knowing that if someone finds one seed phrase they still cant access my funds, helps me sleep at night.

That’s true for both multisig and singlesig + passphrase tho..

Ya that’s what I was thinking. The other thing is I have my seed phrase memorized and not sure I have the brain capacity to do that with multi sig.

If you have 2 out of 3 multi sig it would take 2 seed phrases.
