I do wonder if the freewheeling yet tolerant, respectful culture of #nostr is BECAUSE of the challenging on-boarding and general obscurity of the protocol.

It may be because it is still relatively new and (somewhat) small and the early adopters are better than the trolls that arrive in droves once something is big and cannot be ignored?

Or something else entirely? The people at the start of a thing are there for the love of it or the passion for it, while the ones that turn up much later (reference Facebook and Reddit here) are not passionate about the thing and are there because it’s popular, then want to change it to their way and ideas. These are the NPC types - anyway don’t take me too seriously these are just my casual observations
