I think some bitcoiners don’t realize that in the early days we didn’t have shitcoins. We didn’t even have so much as a hardcore bitcoiner. People into bitcoin were also exploring other implementations that are now eagerly referred to as shitcoins. Back then it was just fun exploring this new tech. Yes, OG bitcoiners were “shitcoiners”. Don’t shoot the messenger.

Now we are all know it all die-hards 😂

We appreciate the OGs

Yup. Experiment in areas that can burn down in flames without affecting Bitcoin. Just don’t shill it as the future of humanity, knowing that you’re only looking to get rich and rug.

There wasn’t much shilling. People were just eager to see what was possible.

Right. I’m thinking through the timeline and what changed. Experimenting is fun and necessary. It’s the people who started shilling that brought on the hostility and created hardcore bitcoiners.

I’m with you, we still need room for experimenting.

2017 was an interesting time, because there were hardcore Bitcoiners but they were an extremely small minority, and lots of people were shitcoining out in the open who have since deleted all evidence of it on Twitter

ICO craze days … I think some people genuinely thought it was ok and that there might be potential. But looking at the broader craze it was easy to see the scams. Ultimately it was all a scam - just that some didn’t realize it.

To be fair there also wasnt much fund raising ala eth and the whole ico bubble

Ya pre-ico days was a more rational environment.

Honestly thats one of the nicest things on nostr it feels very tech focused like the pre ico days

And over the course of a decade most of us have come to understand the true innovation that is the monetary policy + pow + decentralization.

Alternatives that probably set out with a different goal than just creating a rug pull. That's probably the difference.
