I don't find anything wrong with your thinking here... Often God provides guidance & answers through others.

I'm reminded of the old story about the guy eventually drowning from the rising floodwaters, because he wanted the boats that came by to help others, "...because he had enough faith to be OK..." Later in Heaven, he asks God why his faith didn't help, and God says "Well, I sent you 3 boats; what did you expect me to do?"
