In reality, the safest way is to not have it online at all. Not even a watch only. Keep your seed phrase analogue, for your savings that you are not going to spend. Only have your spending sats online, preferably on your own node, behind TOR.
There are some great devices out there, #Foundation for example. For me I don't see the need to spend so much. Most of them, like coldcard, are pointless. (Cue the rebuke). Keep it simple. Don't be reckless. Bitcoin is easy, really
everyone has to find the best setup for himself

Totally. I often say there is no wrong or right, just choice. Try to do some independent research though, don't just follow whomever your fave podcaster is. Often sponsors are not good people. My first seedsigner was a ledger!!! Lovely build quality, great ui, totally untrustworthy. Listened to a certain couple that have been in the space for many moons.
I now have a Jade for my retirement fund but the rest are either on my node for purchases and zaps, in a "transition" wallet before being put into my retirement (obfuscation) and the rest, the final remnants of my KYC stack are on a pass phrased Sparrow wallet, on my laptop that rarely gets switched on.
So, in short, I have practiced and played with different approaches.I believe the only real law should be, no trusted third parties. If the software isn't open, don't use it. That said, do what you feel comfortable with. There are plebs that are finally getting their Mt Gox coins back. Enforced hodling, even at a loss has made them wealthy
