I've long speculated that china and US are already at war to control space by subtle satellite takedowns. not that long ago a chinese "science" satellite had an unexpected de-orbit. I wouldn't be surprised if the US has some kind of kinetic anti-satellite weaponry to make these look like standard space debris impact for plausible deniability.
