New lifer! We (me and nostr:npub1fneh3ggk7ah4axzxd9vpjmx8e2enkjfzs984stvpp6m33vzr9dxs9zdm0k) were walking my dog during this very rainy Saturday evening and, as always, stopped by one of the artificial lakes (Stauteich) next to the apartment to see if we can spot the Common Sandpiper that had been seen here before.

Well, I say "lake". This "lake” isn't really a lake anymore as it has been turned into a rainwater retention basin. But as the past few days have been very rainy, it's started resembling a small lake once more.

At any rate, we ended up seeing what we thought were three Sandpipers on what has now turned into a small island of mud and stones further back. Of course I forgot my binoculars at home, so I quickly ran home, grabbed my binoculars, ran back and looked at the spot where we saw one of them land.

And indeed, it was a Common Sandpiper! I hadn't ever seen one before and was shocked at its small size. I expected them to be the size of a moorhen but it looked to be just a tiny bit larger than a wagtail.

Very fun to have seen a new lifer today :-) Maybe next time I can get a photo of it too!
