The artist did not use generative AI, but did do an editing run with an AI powered editor.

WotC stated that the commission was completed over a year ago (when very few were against generative AI) and that they are adjusting their contracts to forbid generative AI

Looking at the preliminary sketches and all, I got a distinct feeling of "I don't know how to get the hands and feet to look right, so I'm going to let AI do it for me." (which of course is ironic because AI sucks at hands and feet, and the end result shows that)

In the end, if the artist is ok with his works looking like an AI mess, then that's on them. As a consumer, I'm not happy with it.
