IMO, GPT and similar "AI" tech is quite simply a massive carbon dioxide generator

it is a way to increase the greenery, by stealth, for stupid people who like cheesy cliche remixed images and remixed text that isn't totally gobbledygook but is bullshit anyway

Yes, it's a BS machine. Not what the fiat idealist corpos market it as. Reality will hit them hard in the wallet sooner or later.

don't understand the second sentence (at all), but yes

it's just simply going to have that effect, and people who like gpt text and can't recognise it are retarded, as are anyone who doesn't know they are looking at AI generated images

i pitty them, they have no models of reality aside from the ones that came off a screen, obviously

oh yeah, and, not to forget

all this "green" energy is actually having this same effect as well

both solar and wind generators all cost more energy (ie, CO2) than they ever give back as electricity, it's a fact, and it shouldn't be controversial because ... dun dun dun... that is teh nature of physical reality

always losses

law of thermodynamics, which one is it? second? no system is perfectly sealed and leaks energy, in simple terms

hmm.

what bothers me is that I can't trasnfer that rather intuitional feeling to my kids

yes you can

take away the devices, turn off the tv, and go walk in the real world away from the endless wall to wall screens

it's really messed up what it's doing to people, i was puzzled how people were so lost with this shit but now you point it out, yeah, they are really being tuned out of this reality

no. my parents tried to do this we known what you should be doing (and stopped god bless them). They let me do shit. And I'm grateful.

Agreed; heavy computation requires heavy energy use. And wouldn't dare argue that we're awash with stealth agendas out there ....

But! Disagree on it not being a good modern tool for the right problem. Horses for courses.

For example, object extraction from a large body of text using a sophisticated LLM performs pretty well, from experience. And not sure I'd even know how to achieve similar results using other technologies? Even if I did, I'm not sure using many inferior tools to do the same thing would result in much less energy used to generate similar results?

Not that I personally care how much energy it uses if it's deemed useful by the person using that energy ... and their energy production techniques don't affect my, or others, way of life.

🤙

yeah, i agree it has some uses but it's no less incremental advance than anything else before

fiat 🤡 🌍 is always hyping shit to the max and then after the market blows off everything comes back to reality because businesses have figured out it's a hype train and not just a new widget

Thanks for replying 🙏

Sure .. grifters gonna grift ... and if you're playing rug-pull games with over-hyped investments expect to get, unfortunately, rug ... pulled. Defo not a clown-world defender and agree that an aspect like that is a horrible hoax with undeserving victims.

But ... What are the other soultions before LLMs? ... If you program, what tools could I use in a method that takes (text, required_key_value_extracted_pairs) and returns a JSON {"key_1": "value_1", ...} object? Advanced LLMs, with guidance, really excel in that functionality. After all, they're just heavily trained neural networks ..

In particular, I have a "chat extract" method in my FOSS API, https://ajrlewis.com/api/docs, that uses a HuggingFace interference model (probs LLama, can't remember lol!) to do this task ... Would love to know a different approach if you can suggest one 😊 Defo save on the overheads + complexity if I didn't want to use a 3rd party (HuggingFace) in future ...

i have written many scrapers of various kinds over the years, tree walking syntax extracting things

i think you just have never bumped into the black art of language processing at all, LLMs do advance it in some respects but certainly not in energy efficiency or storage efficiency, nothing is better than a well designed language, and i'm in a minority in this opinion, the one composed of all the people who choose #golang instead of rust or c++ or javascript, all of which are incredibly complex, wasteful, and hard to read languages that also cost a lot of human training time for no reason except to comfort the small group of "expressivity" cultists who dominate corporate IT departments

also, as regards to writing stuff properly, i learned to touch type, yes i hate capital letters because pinkies are not made for pressing so much as germanic based english capitalisation requires, and fuck germany this is not their world anymore
