ok fuckit, i hereby coin a new term: NON CONSUMABLE energy source.
you can't CONSUME sun, wind and hydro energy. no matter how much you use them - tomorrow there will be the same amount available for use as there would be if you didn't use any today.
nuclear fuel is CONSUMABLE.
whether OIL regenerates abiogenically or not is a separate issue as well.
you claim we can't thrive on NON CONSUMABLE energy sources alone. YOU ARE WRONG.
there are technologies you are not aware of that bridge the gap between supply and demand.
i will give you an example of three technologies - two of which i invented myself ( then years later learned they already exist ) and one i did not invent, but is brilliant never the less.
1st tech i invented: create a cylindrical dam next to the ocean and use any available energy ( sun, wind etc. ) when available to pump water into this dam from the ocean. then when energy is needed release the water back to the ocean producing energy. this type of "battery" can store MONTHS worth of energy limited only by size of the dam. additionally if the dam is built in the mountains ( for example above Los Angeles ) it multiplies the amount of energy stored by the height of those mountains. obviously you would not build it directly above a populated area.
2nd tech i invented: heat recovery ventilation. the building is sealed 100% air tight and all air exchange is through a heat exchanger that recovers the heat from exiting warm air into the entering cold air directly. it's a very simple device that halves energy use in a house, but a house must be built specifically for it - it must be super insulated and air tight and such a house can't be used without an HRV or you will suffocate without any outside air.

the one i invented is infinitely more efficient than one shown in image but it's irrelevant since most homes don't use even the basic one shown in the diagram.
3 - tech i did NOT invent: phase change paraffin heat battery. paraffin ( candle material ) melts at 37C. during the day solar power and heat pumps are used to melt a tank of paraffin which stores vast amount of latent heat at constant 37C. at night heat energy is used to heat the home. this battery is cheap, stores a fuckload of heat, lasts forever and can be easily recycled.
so no. we don't need nuclear. we just need geniuses like me.
