What's the power consumption on use of this app? I feel like it could be quite a drain?

That was my first thought, but it's very configurable, so you can adjust the refresh time to anything from 1 min to 40 hours.

I had mine set to 5 mins and left it overnight off the charger. Didn't notice any difference in typical drawdown.
