Yeah, that's kinda what I'm dealing with now. I run a few small services for nostritches, but it finally built up to ~$150 in cloud charges a month out of my pocket. Some stuff I just did wrong (like letting many docker apps install their own postgres) and to some degree it just grew.

I rented dedicated hardware much cheaper and with more storage (an issue for image/video hosting) but now I get to go through my spaghetti and move it without losing stuff (hopefully).

The skills will last a lifetime though, but it sucked tonight. I'm really dreading trying to move peertube. LOL

How much would it cost to buy your own server and run it from your house? I know some fedi ppl do that.

I am building my house right now, and may afterwards. The issue is upstream bandwidth. I run image and video hosting. They have fiber in this area that’s 3Gbps up/down, for a huge setup fee, so that’s waiting until I get in my forever home later this year.

Hardware, I’ll prolly drop about 2 grand, but only because I’ll drop a couple of Intel ARC cards in there for video transcoding.
