Sorry, but that is a retarded interpretation of history and just plain wrong. Yes, the Kuomingtang had an authoritarian dictatorship but they were in no way on the side of the Japanese. They were the ones fighting against Japan in WW2. Taiwan was much more in line with Japan since they were a colony of Japan since 1895 and had adopted many Japanese customs. My wife’s grandfather was fluent in Taiwanese and Japanese because he and everyone else his age had a Japanese education.

After WW2 when the Kuomingtang took over and brutally repressed Taiwan, many Taiwanese began aspiring to self-determination. After martial law was finally lifted, Taiwan shifted to a representative democracy and the local Taiwanese political party is more popular than the old KMT. The only reason they don’t officially change their name to Republic of Taiwan is because China threatens to attack.

I do agree though that the US is provocative to China and doesn’t really care about Taiwan, just like they don’t really care about Ukraine. They are just using Taiwan (and Ukraine) as pawns and to sell weapons.

The thing most people don’t even consider is what the people of Taiwan want for themselves. They have the right to control their own destiny. The CCP has never once ruled over Taiwan. They don’t get to decide Taiwan’s fate. And neither do keyboard warriors who know nothing of the history of Taiwan. Taiwan should the sole decider in its own destiny, not China or the US.
