My take: It's was all an advertising campaign, run for free, to get people into buying twitter subscriptions.

Whole 2022 was mind-blowing to watch grown-ass kinda smart people cheering "free speech" on Twitter :)).
It was of course something impossible, Elon not being an Idiot of course knew that, governments control and define the limits of free speech on everything they can touch. Either comply, either go underground. If you're a company you comply.
So the next logical explanation was this: Advertising campaign. At zero financial cost, world media spread his tweets for free. And was pretty smart. They bought his BS and they were happy lol.
