What about in industries such as medicine, regulation on scope of practice and protecting people from what is actual treatment that helps people versus a scam? Does the state have to play a role here as simply an entity to help protect people? If not, what would be some of the principles that would drive a sustainable healthcare system free of the state?

Something as important as these services must not be put exclusively in the hands of an incompetent state.

100% agree with you on that. A single payer system sounds awful but yet to so many people when they hear about it as a potential way to make healthcare costs more affordable to them for the time being they don’t think about the inverse overall decrease in quality that also occurs with the the monopolization backed by violence.
