Very cool. I was in the right region at least! I went to Myanmar a long time ago, but nothing like that area you were.
Off the coast of Myeik, Myanmar. Thailand’s better and lesser known brother.
The Mergui Archipelago has very similar scenery to Southern Thailand without the tourists. Thousands of islands- some of which have never been touched by man.
Pretty hard to get to but well worth the trek. It’s a must travel. I wrote about it on my website if you care to read.

The south is seriously underrated. Some of the most beautiful scenery in all of SE Asia, yet very little mention in the travel guides.
I was in Yangon and pulled up the map while I was bored. Saw a cluster of islands and sent it down there on a 26 hour bus with no plan. Very little infrastructure but the best decision of my trip.
Camped on a private island with no other guests except the island keeper and a litter of newborn island puppies. Surreal experience.
It’s bound to blow up to tourists one day soon. Go before that happens.
