A Canadian politics post.

Dong is now an independent. He had to make this move.

Trudeau is a lame duck PM. There is no way he can continue on without the Chinese interference creating a circus in Question Period and wherever he goes in public.

The problem is that he cannot step down with an easy transition of power to the next person. This process takes time. Normally they need to book a convention, select delegates, nominees declare, debates, etc. They would need to forgo this process and allow sitting Liberals to decide the next leader.

The problem I see is that there is no break in the Question Period schedule until July. The summer break may give them enough time to figure things out internally, and showcase the new leader. This will come with a lot of backlash since it wasn't done in the typical fashion.

One way around this is to prorogue parliament, but this won't solve much. I suspect they may do this as a way to stop the PROC investigation, allow for Johnston to present his findings, and go from there to try and restore confidence in the PM and the election process. It likely won't work.

Another variable to consider is Singh. He could demand a lot more now given that the Liberals are looking very weak at the moment, and anything he requests will be given a lot of thought.

We are in for an eventful few months in Canadian politics. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

Sounds like the perfect timing for a national security event to coincidentally pop off. JT can claim emergency powers etc etc. Those damned Diagolon Terrorists are an easy slam dunk

I don't think it will go to those extremes. This whole charade will likely play out in the political theatre without going to those measures.

But then again.... anything is possible. The last 3 years has proved it 😄
