The repeat beaters is a massive financial trap that really makes it hard to get going. Are you mechanically capable? That and solid maintenance makes owning a beater much cheaper.

So many people sell cars because they know about impending repairs. The dealers don't even check or hope you won't notice when you buy it.

Youtube is full of videos about the common problems on most cars. They all have them, but you can come informed on how pricy, how to check if it is already failing, and what maintenance to do to avoid it once the car is yours. Research before purchase, maintenance after, and a little bit of luck is the path out.

Once you are out of that trap and established financially, fresh off lease low mileage to buy still following the rules above. Then do your maintenance religiously and keep it as long as is possible. I bought my 12 year old truck 10 years ago, paid off for years and still serves me well.

That's rough, I'd grind and scrape every last cent I can get my hands on. Cut out bad habits, cut spending as much as you can. Focus solely on learning and earning, have gf focus on nurturing the kid and taking care of most things at home. You are your greatest asset, use it and become the best man you can be. I hope it all works out for you dude

Remember these few things

You don't need to become a mechanic, you need to learn how to fix this one problem on the one car you have. Car parts stores will even loan you tools for free.

You don't need to become a plumber, you need to learn how to fix the one problem with the one toilet in front of you.

People probably won't give you much if any money, but they will happily share knowledge for free. It doesn't feel like it right now but the knowledge is more useful in the long run.

Every new challenge like this that you beat makes you a bigger badass for the next set of challenges, which is good because life will never stop giving you challenges.

Most people want you to succeed because we all love an underdog story, by helping you they get to play a small part. Exploit this when looking for help, you are in a bad spot now but this is the exact path you will take out and how the thing you are asking for will make it happen.

I've lived in my car in hard times before. When people know that history and that you beat that situation the respect is immediate from everyone forever.

So what specifically is wrong with the car? The toilet? Let's get started on the first step.
