Next level of what though? WeChat-level surveillance and control over users’ communications and transactions is not a good thing, despite how useful and convenient the interface may make some things.
No I'm talking about monetisation, the you tube model everything all in one place, your banking Bitcoin transactions etc etc.

You replied to me, good sir. If you don’t wish to continue the discussion then you are free to make that decision. They can do anything on WeChat until WeChat decides they can’t. It may be extremely useful, as X.com may become extremely useful in a similar way, but that doesn’t make them platforms for freedom. X controls its users. It goes beyond just surveillance, to their ability to shut down a user’s account, or silence their voice with shadowbans/deboosting via their algorithms. Pay $7 and even a verified user is still subject to their control. However useful X may be for some things, it isn’t freedom, and that’s my point. Conversely, no one can stop me from sending a bitcoin transaction or publishing/reading a Nostr event.
