The funeral for both of Lebanese Hezbollah’s (LH) former secretary-generals, Hassan Nasrallah and Hashem Safieddine, is ongoing in Beirut, Lebanon. Nasrallah, by far the most preeminent of the two, held the principal leadership position within the terrorist organization since 1992 after rising through the ranks of precursor organizations in the 1980s. Both Nasrallah and his successor, Hashem Safideinne, were killed by Israeli decapitation strikes within days of each other after a number of memorable IDF/Mossad operations that systematically located, targeted, and eliminated every key decision-maker in LH’s military command structure, save a paltry few in the outer command structure.
