I initially described the symptoms for DM1, which is most often characterized by excessive urination, pronounced thirst losing weight and feeling unwell.

DM2 is usually less pronounced. Frequently, these patients are initially diagnosed in the emergency room due to untreated hyperglycemia. A doctor will probably screen you for DM2 if you have vague symptoms combined with other components of metabolic syndrome.

DM1 also includes excessive sleepiness right?

Any fatigue is most likely a consequence of dehydration and an absence of insulin (malnutrition due to no fat storage), but it is not a specific symptom in and of itself (i.e. there are hundreds of other conditions that cause sleepiness).

Ahh thanks for that clarification

Yes, you are correct!
