Growing up we didn't even have cable TV, let alone video games. We were allowed to watch PBS maybe an hour a day. Everything else was the devil. I played outside.

We aren't retarded calling everything the devil, but do limit access to only the essentials. For example email, school, wikipedia, gutenburg.org, and other select things, and only during daylight hours and not in their bedroom. We have enough books to keep a municipal electric power plant running for a month and they all get read. No TV, no Cable, no DVD, no Disney, no pop music.

We have a policy of no video games until 7th grade. They all have plenty of siblings to play with, and they can go anywhere in the planes or woods within a mile of the house. They can go on any body of water if they have a life vest. They can use the landline all they want, and they can spend their own money on anything they want.

They are allowed to listen to any music from an artist that was popular before 1984 with a few exceptions, and we explain that ALL music is designed to manipulate emotions and brainwash, including religious music. They are also allowed to listen to any music they can play themselves, and they can have any musical instrument they want. They are still digesting my napster category of country music.

Our kids are very happy.
