GM. Sorry to respond to a quote with another quote — but this one from Epictetus made me think of the Voltaire line I shared earlier today:

“Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.”

Epictetus reminds us that what really matters is how we respond to events, not the events themselves.

Voltaire warns what happens when we let others do that thinking for us.

Freedom starts in the mind — lose that, and everything else follows.

I think what I enjoy about reading historic quotes the most is the realization that the things that I continue to learn and realize for the first time are truths that were learned centuries earlier…
