Phones have stoped evolving.

There are almost no new samrtphones made in the last year that have sd card. The prices for mobile storage is at all time low while prices/gb that phone manufacturers offer is higher than what we had in the years before 2020/21. Most new phones that have sd cards are mid range or the ones that are the high end are china only. The only exception is Sony. But there is another problem:

Custom ROMs. They almost used to be the norm. Every other phone had a community of dedicated devs and users whose main thing was customizing and optimizing the experience. Where did those users go? Custom ROMs used to be easy and safe to install. Now you need a permission from the manufacturer, linux experience and God guiding you just to unlock the bootloader. And even if you can unlock the bootloader there are either no ROMs developped or the ones that are available die after few months because the sole maintainer decided that this is isn't for him anymore. What happened?

Now everything is proprietary. The most open mobile platform that is worth using is the Google Pixel. Excuse me? Google? The data harvester? YES, GOOGLE. That google that runs most of the internet and controls almost all data on the internet. And their phones are not even that good. Their battery isn't that longlasting, the phones is always hot for some reason.

Oh and last but not least. The headphone jack. C'mon guys. Are you really that greedy? Everybody already has bluetooth headphones and like thcomfort of them. I have one too and use them more than my wired headphones. Can we stop with this? Can we have the headphone jack back?

Fuck all phone manufacturers. There are no good phones anymore.

No. This is in no way evolvement. Somebody just wants to make a quick buck. We already have high quality full color screens and high preformance chips. I don't want a screen that has two colors and a chip that my phone from several years ago used. All that for $730??? Nobody wants that.

For that price a phone should use fast snapdragon chip, high refreshrate and high quality oled/amoled display, a good camera and has the mentioned sd card and headphone jack.

A quick buck? The founder was ditched by all VCs. Prices are this high due to low volume production so they don't get huge volume discounts. The display tech is a great step forward: No blue light, high refresh rate, perfect readability in sun light, ePaper like legibility. Maybe it's not for you, that's okay.

If you don't want Pixels, maybe OnePlus is acceptable? https://service.oneplus.com/us/search/search-detail?id=2085382&articleIndex=1

So the hardware is $130 and the display should be $450 and assembly+profit margin is let's say $150? That is too much. And you don't even get a camera.

I bought a Samsung galaxy XCover pro because I wanted a removable battery, headphone jack and sdcard slot. I just have to live with no Foss roms. Pixels are OK but to expensive for me.

SD cards are so awesome. I forgot how great they were. I pay a few dollars for a 1tb card and when I want all my pictures I just take it out, put it in my linux box and copy the photo folder.

This phone would be so awesome if we could load custom operating systems. Problem is after 4 years it basically becomes obsolete. No more security updates

They have stopped allowing the unlocking of the bootloader :-(

Sony still stands unbeaten to this day
