Suggestions for the best lightning wallet to use here would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that Alby now charges a fee.

Minibits is awesome but its only lightning now on chain
Another for ease of use (in general) and connecting to #Amethyst is Wallet Of Satoshi. I think it is custodial, which is usually a no no, but it is nigh on idiotproof (I can attest lol). If you do use it, only keep a small amount on.
At the moment I go between Damus and Primal.
Primal has an inbuilt wallet but Damus not.
But, there is a lightning bolt icon on my Damus profile but not on Primal. Which is odd since it has the inbuilt one.
I’m trying to work out if I need to connect an external wallet.
I haven't used Damus as that's iOS only on mobile, so can't help there. Primal's inbuilt one is KYC, so imho I'd use an external wallet, just for flexibility 👍
