There is a lot of nuance around how it makes node running more difficult but ultimately yes it does.

It also creates more competition for block space if people are using it for non monetary purposes, pushing up transactions fees.

There are companies interested in shitcoining on the bitcoin network and will likely get paid in fiat to facilitate it.

There also seems to be a cohort of well intentioned Bitcoiners lapping up the FUD around spam filtration. The idea that it either doesn't work or is censorship doesn't stand up to scrutiny.
