I honestly don’t think this message can be emphasized enough at this stage of Nostr’s growth. Nostr with Bitcoin/zaps enables something for independent artists that was never really possible before. The more people hear about real world examples of artists’ experience on nostr vs other platforms the better. It’s easy for people to say “this or that” theoretically about V4V, but it is undeniable to hear directly from an artist about their engagement here and that they made X-amount on other platforms vs. whatever they’ve made on nostr.
Discussion
I have this discussion with a lot of buttcoiners or dead end successful musicians from my bubble on Instagram, X, Facebook a lot. “Why do you use Bitcoin? Why use Nostr? What is the use case? Name me a use case where you use Lightning etc.” - I always answer something like “Bro, look I have 1,5k followers on Instagram and I have 600ish on Nostr, I never made a fucking cent on Instagram, but on Nostr in a month I can more or less pay for guitar strings, which is nice!”
And on top of that we get out of our bubble, I mean it is clearly a lot of BTC focus over here, but a lot of art, too. It’s just not mainstream over here…
Nostr is unique in that the viewer can now easily apply value to any content. The way social media has conditioned us to think is that the like button is also a value button. I like that people who see value in content created can zap the artist directly. If it pays for strings or paint for the month that’s great. I believe to truly monetize an account into success you’d likely need an, “exit through the gift shop” model. nostr:npub1gwa27rpgum8mr9d30msg8cv7kwj2lhav2nvmdwh3wqnsa5vnudxqlta2sz & nostr:npub17nd4yu9anyd3004pumgrtazaacujjxwzj36thtqsxskjy0r5urgqf6950x come to mind. Undeniable value and a dedicated store. That’s the winning combo.
