The early "Progressive," movement founded environmentalism, supported gun control, advocated birth control / reproductive rights, were highly skeptical of imperialism and were in favor of woman's suffrage.

The kicker is that all these "progressive," causes were predicated upon maintaining the welfare of the huwhite race in their respective nations.
