Not really honestly. I've heard about it but don't know it exactly I guess. I thought it's more like a password. I didn't think it would get lost forever that easily.

yeah, it's a big paradigm shift and I don't think it's properly explained yet

the basic trade off is that, whenever there is a password, it means that someone else has the power over you

the password is the secret you show them to ask for permission to do something, whether it is writing a post, withdrawing your money from your bank, or whatever service this authority is providing for you.

Using a key, instead of a password, is for systems where you, as the holder of that key, are not subject to any other provider or authority.

But of course, properly handling a key is not something most people are used to yet, so this is an important thing we need to help explain.

This is a great lesson for Bitcoin as well.

Similar setup with a private key. Keep it safe and don't share it with anyone.

You lose custody of you private key you compromise your BTC.
