We used X Plane and Microsoft Slight Sim sometimes, and plugins, in addition to high-end Rockwell stuff which was orders of magnitude more expensive. It was fun seeing the evolution of these various products over a decade.

Yes it is insane how those companies charge for real aircraft boxes, broken money incentives makes them so large and inefficient that prevents them from being agile. I worked for Collins aerospace supporting the global 6000 business jet and was insane how much we were charging, even for software updates. Those systems labs are still required but I’m very excited with the development simulators early in the design, combined with AI able to understand SDK to make plugins and interface with engineering models on tools such as matlab.
