i already figured out years ago that identities should be long, unique codes and pet names should be non-exclusive for these reasons... you do have an issue of impersonation for this case, but it can be solved with simple fingerprints, which can be text or visual

A lot of Chinese social media do this approach, many of them just use a numeric ID, but I know some IDs can be usernames.
