I've had so many problems with software RAID on Linux that I'm thinking it's time for me to give up on it and go with a hardware RAID solution instead. So if you do the RAID route, avoid zfspool and mdadm if you want to avoid the hassles of hours of reading, troubleshooting, and even some data loss when things go really bad.
