Working the ER smack dab in the middle of rural America, Easter Sunday afternoon, of all days, and a 19 year old kid comes in code blue after snorting a fentanyl rail with his buddies.

Over the last two years I’ve worked all over and it isn’t just this particular town or just this particular part of the country. It’s all over. I don’t have any answers, just makes me sad and wanted to share.

Sadly this is everywhere, where there is demand there will always be supply 😔

I can’t tell if it is just a general sense of hopelessness or they just want to go hard or what. Something is just wrong.

My kids aren’t too far off from that age and I am very open and honest with them about all this kind of thing, but just scares the hell out of me.

They are young. All we can do is be open and honest with our kids by talking to them about, then it’s up to them and their path 💜

🙏

Why the demand? Have to solve that.

That is indeed needed 🙏

It sad I lost like 7 friends in the last 2 years to overdose.. 😥😥😥😥😥

Oh my goodness, very sorry to hear 🫂😔

So sad! This has been on my mind on my trip to visit my parents in midwest

Medical system is the cause and solution to this problem which makes it just a problem.

What exactly does the medical system have to do with cartels producing fentanyl?

Cause? That needs an explanation.

I don't 100% agree but do get this to a certain extent. When I talk to my kids about drugs it generally goes something like "you shouldn't take any drugs unless they are prescribed to you by your doctor" but, shit, I don't even know if I believe that 100% anymore. Opium prescriptions have tightened up a lot as compared to 10-20 years ago but still, a lot of these ODs are parents or kids of parents with a legit prescription.

However, the sheer amount of it on the streets right now is just unreal. Cartels, pill pushing docs, whatever the reason they are out there. It is like guns. Total make believe if you think we can enforce some kind of a drug/gun ban. The shit is out there for those who want to find it.

What’s the problem? The nineteen year older didn’t share the Fanta?

🤣

I feel ya mate... Worked in the ER and out on the road as an anesthesiologist... Had too many people that never left the ER that were younger than me... Shit just hits differently when they are younger...

Had to drink charcoal and get my stomach pumped in the ER one time.

The question is.. what did you drink before that? 😂

What is it that is so bad that they turn to drugs? Why is alcohol insufficient? Sad. People who don’t want kids is starting to make sense

That's exactly what I said to my wife. What happened to smoking a little weed or having a couple of beers? Just going straight to snorting opium on a fucking Sunday afternoon?

That is not good. Where are the parents? God help us

Amen

When I was 19, I was hoping not to get carded at the club, and that a girl inside the club would be up for spreading her legs in the back seat of my car. Not what can I snort up my nose.

Sorry to hear that. We all have our graveyards, but this one would be tougher than most.

any ideas on solution here?

Unfortunately no. Think it starts at home with the family and families in general are struggling right now.

Is anybody listening to them?

Good question

Yeah I'm really curious. Are we listening to one another? A lot of pain goes silent.

Yes that’s where it begin. Will I accept pain from a fentanyl-addicted person? Have to find them first before making prescriptions

By then its too late. I lost a friend to alcohol once, there was no way to stop it. We need to listen early, even then success may not be guaranteed.

Heard a lot of prescriptions for gun violence in America this Easter Weekend and I must say, the solution in the short term might only be JESUS.
