I picked the Bitcoin Atlantis federation after reviewing the recommended mints based off my web of trust (Nostr follows).
Also using the federation essentially just as a mailbox for offline receives which then get swept into my custody.
It's the best of both worlds (and a way better option than any legacy custody options i.e. WoS/stackernews/etc)

Give it a shot. Can try it without needing to invest in opening channels immediately. I guess right now you would have to subscribe (16k SATs) to get an address... But pretty sure they're going to make that free eventually also
