It was supposed to fund Social Security, which has turned out to be one of the greatest rug pulls in history, as well as Medicare, because the government couldn’t be bothered to make a fair, efficient public healthcare system, so it makes employers have to become health insurance brokers and ties access to medical care to someone’s job. The whole thing stinks.

Welcome to the bullshit of the real. I run a small business and hired 3 people this year. Payroll taxes, workers comp insurance, local transit taxes, prolly about 5 layers of government im supposed to report hires to.
As a small business owmer i live in a state of low anxiety that by conducting the act of providing value to my local econony and hiring people witjin it, im sure im breaking or doing wrong several rules or laws unbeknownst to me and can basically be criminalized for my victimless, unknown crimes at any future date. Madness

Comimg to learn if you run a business or company, YOU WILL COMPLY WHEN TOLD. Simply put, They can hold these unbeknownst charges over your head if you dont and with the snap of a finger your now in the jail/prison system.

it certainly makes it seem less terrible to be doing small business in grey areas like dealing or growing pot not seem so bad when you think about it
I not only in a fully non grey area business but one of the most regulated business sectors in America ( mortgages). I had some junkers come by to pick up stuff from my house the other day cuz i was moving...all i could think about was how little regulation they had to deal with compared to me.
yeah, i hate to think... i used to do tech support and i didn't even pay taxes but some of the places i worked for... one was even an insolvency accountancy haha

Good point. There is legislation here in California to put a stop to that. AB5, I wish more people would see the benefit in setting up an LLC and utilizing the 1099 payment option. Of course the government doesn’t want widespread use of that loophole.
Spending by most governments is out of control, every year increasing at an increasing rate. Most people recognize that it’s unsustainable. But there’s not much said about how it’s become completely untethered from revenue. Governments have shown that they don’t really need the money from taxes - they just print what they need. The only critical need they have for income and employee tax is to control people and businesses.
