I was wondering if I'd see someone mention Illich on here! I grew up listening to his insights because my father was obsessed when I was little. The only book I've actually read, though, is Medical Nemesis. Written in 1976, and predicted almost perfectly what happened with Covid and more generally the cost of society outsourcing all decisions to "experts."
