are there any paid relays that you reccomend? if you pay for a relay should you then unlink from the free relays to not get the clutter?

Thats correct. Almost all paid relays are implemented like this as NIP-42 isn’t widely available so pay-to-read isn’t practical.
Free to read, paid to write. You can connect to the relay but your events will be rejected.
Pay-to-read could definitely have it's place, moving forward.
Absolutely! I already have ideas and can’t wait to play with NIP-42. Unfortunately virtually no client supports it (I believe gossip does in master branch but haven’t tried yet).
I removed all the free ones and subscribed to 10 paid ones (advantage that the spam is filtered out and they are much faster in terms of connectivity!)... they are all on the list I posted - if you want you can also subscribe to my own: wss://bitcoinmaximalists.online
Oh okay that does sound great. One question that I have is that if you are not connected to the same relays as your followers they would not be able to see your notes that you post?
When they are following you they will see your posts also if they are not on the same relays - the protocol interconnects the notes so to say.
