What's the workaround? Anything else work well? Lava rocks and june bugs or some magical stuff like that?

We've been using them for a while. We like them better than the Berkeys. We don't have a well but we use a rainwater collection system and have never had issues. They fit in the Berkey systems too so you only need to buy the filters and you're good to go.
