do you think as the value of bitcoin increases, the amount of bitcoin being held on L2's like lightning will decrease? my thought process is that regular day to day tx's will technically be less btc volume since btc will be worth more, so lots of btc in channels won't be so necessary, what u think?

Remember that as bitcoin's value appreciates, more people will be using it. There will be greater distribution even as the individual amounts used will be smaller.
I think it'll trend toward greater number of sats locked up in channels over time as adoption increases.
