It's day three here for me on nostr and the **energy** is still extremely high. New folks are popping in. Our welcome wagon #[0] is greeting almost every single pleb as they are onboarded. Lightning invoices are being shared and paid. People are **building**. It's all very early, but we all can feel that this is something that could be different. This is something that **will** be different.

I was asked earlier on Twitter what was so special about nostr, if the fact that it was decentralized was it's only selling point. I told them that **decentralization** is in fact that most important part of nostr. They didn't get it yet. They didn't see the **value**.

**We're still early.**

Twitter is a meme, Server is a meme.

relays still run on servers...

Thanks for the pregame speech! I could run through a wall right now!

I think it’s similar to Bitcoin adoption in Africa or El Salvador. In the USA our need for an alternative currency to the dollar is not as dire, so we don’t see the value.

But in El Salvador they have been at the mercy of the IMF, so Bitcoin becomes an escape hatch.

Many won’t understand nostr (or similar protocols) until they need the escape hatch from mainstream social media. Just my pleb take.

def

is elon on board? (nostr)

fully agree. it's a problem of more developed countries and people that haven't traveled the world nor researched it.

ironic if a bitcoiner doesn’t get the importance of decentralization

lemme go check if they had bitcoin in bio.

thanks for helping me out on this

It can’t be overstated that decentralization of social media is the only outlet to freedom we’re likely to have for global communication - not unlike the freedom afforded by government free money called #bitcoin!

I don’t like I can’t easily respond with pictures or gif’s tho

in time

You can respond with GIFs, you just have to do a little PoW first. Think of it that way. That said, I assume in the future some GIF sharing service will be integrated that doesn't embed the GIFs, but just finds them and shares the links to them.

yeah this goes WAY beyond a social media site. This solves the walled garden problem of platforms across messengers, social media, and more.

With decentralisation comes a level of OWNERSHIP that participants don’t typically get with other centralised platforms

It feels like WE are building this for ourselves, rather than having it served to us on a platter by a corporation with its own agenda

This is the mind virus that makes decentralised solutions like Bitcoin/LN and nostr succeed

Well said!

I'm a fan.

it's growing fairly fast too, for something that has less than optimal UX.

The recent "linktree policy" was a panicked reaction to the realization that the Twitter platform "moat" is really a social construct. The company did a brilliant job in the early days to build the "checkmark" validity, but at the end of the day these platforms are just platforms

They are realizing that there is really nothing stopping a mass migration (especially if the transition can be made to be easy and  seamless). So they freaked out and banned external links lol...🙄
