Principles is a word I associate more with beliefs than politics. Of course I too have to engage with the masses and with government which necessarily results in doing politics in a way, but the motivating factor is principle, aka belief.

For me, the principle of politics is in its root as a word: "polis" means city, and politics is *supposed to be* the art of living well in community. We ought to discuss how to live well together, but the conversation deteriorates into us vs them and infighting over less meaningful details.

That’s interesting. Didn’t know the meaning of polis. Might simply be an issue with how reality unfolds and politics working to save the people is a bit like any other utopia.
