Has the lightning network been a failure?

UX is bad.

It cannot scale to every person on the planet.

Self custody can be a pain to manage.

Periodic problems with routing payments.

Personally I don't think it is a failure. It is either a step or stepping stone in the right direction. Is it an answer to scaling solutions? That is unknown at this time. But it is a usable option at the moment when fees are high.
