Ie. If you have a dollar coin from 1913 and it could by 10 loaves of bread in that era, could it's antiquity afford 10 loaves of bread today?

I see what you mean. I don't know. It wasn't my interest so I don't really even know what I own. Would be interesting to check current value, but no way to know the cost basis.

Certainly when you factor in storage and preservation costs, it makes no sense.

The only logical reason would be sentimentality.
